Bitcoin Blockchain Splits on Saturday as BIP-110 Supporters Fall Behind Main Chain by 7 Blocks

BTC-1.74%

According to The Block, Bitcoin's blockchain split on Saturday at block 961,632 as nodes running the BIP-110 proposal began rejecting blocks that did not signal support for the controversial anti-spam measure restricting data like Ordinals inscriptions. By 6 p.m. ET, Bitcoin's main chain had reached block 961,640 while the BIP-110 chain remained at block 961,633.

The split reveals minimal miner backing for BIP-110. During the two-week activation period prior to Saturday, only 51 blocks signaled support for the proposal, equaling 2.53% of the 2,016 blocks in the evaluation period, according to BIP-110's monitoring data. Bitcoin typically requires 55% miner support to lock in upgrades. Bitcoin traded around $65,000 at publication with no significant price movement following the split.
