Think Links
To Power Up Customer Traffic and Improve Search Engine Ranking

Google, Yahoo, MSN...they're all looking to see who's linking to your site. When your customers go browsing before they go buying, links are a key factor in whether your site ends up at the top, or the bottom, of their search results.  But not all links are created equal!  Good links that will help your ranking are from quality (not spammy) websites that are truly relevant to your business.  Avoid linking software or link farms that link to you from an unrelated page simply to increase link count; it could get your site banned altogether by the search engines.

Great sources for incoming links? You don't need a lot of links. Just a few from the right places such as:

  • Directories. Register with DMOZ, Yahoo, Google, your industry associations or authorities.

  • Vendors, business partners, even customers in your industry. When selecting from this list, check out which ones are already listed in DMOZ and other directories -- links from their sites will be more valuable to you in building your credibility with search engines.

  • Industry newsletters. Volunteer content and ask that they link to your site.

  • Relevant .edu and .gov website links score well with search engines.

  • Press releases. Hyperlink your company name and include your URL in contact info.

  • Blogs. Post news, tips, updates that others will value and link to you as a resource.

Not sure who may be linking to you already? Click here for Yahoo's Site Explorer. Type in your site address, hit "Explore URL" and click on the Inlinks tab to find out.

Don't Let the Competition Outsell You!
Get Online Now!

Customers shopping for products/services search online 74 percent of the time.

If your competition's got a website, you need one also to compete for those sales.  If they don't, beat them to the punch with a site that lets customers learn about your firm first.

First:
Secure your domain name.  When selecting a name, businesses typically use their company name to make it easy for customers to remember.  If your product or brand name is more prominent than your  company name, you might consider using that instead -- it's what customers enter when they search for you online.  Or you can also register several domains.. and redirect all of them to your website for maximum exposure and coverage.  (Click here to check domain name availability.)
